Microsoft's Mixed Month: Copilot, Confusion, and Battery Percentage

Price Hike and Copilot Controversy

Microsoft's Microsoft 365 got a price increase for the first time in 12 years. While Microsoft didn't attribute it directly to Copilot, the AI tool is now included in Personal and Home subscriptions, albeit with limitations.

The price increase has raised questions about Microsoft's intentions, with some users questioning the value of Copilot and preferring more affordable options.

Rebranding Debacle

Microsoft 365 also underwent a rebranding, with its apps now featuring the "Copilot" moniker. This move has drawn criticism, with many arguing that Copilot is not yet established as a recognized brand and that the integration of AI in everything feels forced.

Salesforce's Attack

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has been critical of Microsoft's AI efforts, calling Copilot a "repackaged OpenAI."

"Microsoft has disappointed everybody with how they've approached this AI world," said Benioff.

Battery Percentage Triumph

In a more positive development, Windows 11 is reportedly testing a feature to display battery percentage in the taskbar. This feature has been available on competing operating systems for years, but its absence in Windows 11 has been a source of frustration.

Missed Mobile Opportunity

Android co-founder Rich Miner has attributed Microsoft's failure in the mobile market to Bill Gates.

"I literally helped create Android to prevent Microsoft from controlling the phone the way they did the PC," said Miner.

Miner estimates that Gates cost Microsoft $400 billion by missing the mobile opportunity.
